Daring To Care!!!

Newcastle Pound Pooch Rescue © was created with the the aim of ethically and responsibly rehoming as many of the unwanted, the discarded and the endangered dogs as possible.

60,000 dogs are killed in N.S.W. alone every year. Newcastle Pound Pooch Rescue Rescue © aims to put a dent in that statistic but we cannot do it alone and everyone reading this can help us achieve our goals.

Initially when a dog is rescued from the pound, dedicated volunteers will be organised to transport the rescued pooches to their respective temporary foster homes where they are provided with some stability following the traumatic and distressing experience of being placed in a pound or being discarded by their previous owner. This transition period allows the pooch to not only recover and receive some much-needed physical and psychological care, but to also be accurately assessed.

The dogs will receive the necessary healthcare whilst in their foster homes including worming, nutrition, vaccination and desexing. All ethical rescue organisations desex their dogs in order to prevent unwanted pregnancies and to help combat the issue of companion animal overpopulation.

When we deem the pooch is ready for an adoption we will begin advertising them on various sites for potential adopters to not only view their photos, but to also read an assessment on the personality of the pooch and make an informed decision about adoption. Once that has been completed our adoption team will complete the process matching the right pooch to the right home.

As you can see, rescue is a rewarding but costly enterprise. Rescue relies on volunteers to donate what they can and partnerships with veterinarians to subsidise the cost of caring for the pooch, however this still rarely covers the adoption fee associated with rehoming these pooches.

Want to help Newcastle Pound Pooch Rescue © rehome more pooches but don’t know what you can do? (Below is a list of things you can do to help us re-home the homeless pooches and find a perfect loving home for them)

*ADOPT: Adopt your next pooch! These dogs need a permanent home. The only difference between a rescue pooch and other pooches is the situation they are in. Many animals are surrendered through no fault of their own and the reasons are varied but in essence they are in desperate need.

*SHARE: Sharing links amongst your friends would help immensely. Perhaps you are not in a position to adopt or foster but let your friends know about these pooches in need as perhaps one of your friends may be looking for their ideal pooch. Share the information on the page because many are totally unaware about the need for these dogs to find homes.

*Say NO to pet shops selling puppies, say NO to puppy farming, say NO to backyard breeding. Many people don’t know that many of these dogs have been the product of irresponsible backyard breeding or from puppy mills. If you have not come across these terms then perhaps do some research. We, as an ethical rescue, firmly support “Oscar’s Law”. Please visit the website and become informed about what really happens to these adorable pooches http://www.oscarslaw.org/

*VOLUNTEER: If you have some time or skills we need you! There are so many ways to volunteer to help Newcastle Pound Pooch Rescue ©. Why not email poundpooch@hotmail.com and volunteer! We desperately need people to assist with transport (to and from the vet and pounds), letterbox drops, walking the dogs etc.……
